Tiny Dancers (SOLD)

Megan’s original tomatoes oil pastel on burlap artwork triptych, Tiny Dancers, features a bowl of fresh cherry tomatoes from our family garden basking in a beam of splendid sunshine. The original fine art triptych artwork is mounted on a shou sugi ban wood plank.

Our fresh garden tomatoes sparkled in the beam of sunlight on our kitchen counter as I noticed the small green stems appeared as tiny dancers gracing their tops as little free spirits. I immediately thought of Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” song with the lyrical melody playing through my mind throughout the day.

-Megan Morgan

Tiny Dancers was selected Third Place in the 2014 Fall Louisville Art Association Members Show – Louisville, Colorado. Recognized for the image detail accomplished within a small work presentation – a rare accomplishment for a fine art miniature.

Elton John released “Tiny Dancer” on his 1971 album Madman Across The Waters. At over 6 minutes long, the original song was not an immediate hit due to radio play limitations, but grew in popularity gradually over the years in appreciation of the full melodic development. “Tiny Dancer” is inspired by the free spirits of California women in the early 1970’s.

We came to California in the fall of 1970 and it seemed like sunshine just radiated from the populace. I guess I was trying to capture the spirit of that time, encapsulated by the women we met, especially at the clothes stores and restaurants and bars all up and down the Sunset Strip. They were these free spirits, sexy, all hip-huggers and lacy blouses, very ethereal the way they moved.

-Bernie Taupin, “Tiny Dancers” co-writer (with Elton John)
